The Heart Behind the Glow: Why I Started OnCue Glow

Today is April 9th — my birthday — and honestly, there’s no better way to celebrate than by sharing the heart behind this brand.

If you’ve ever stood in the middle of a brightly lit beauty aisle, you know the one, with the neon lights and the rows of "drama-heavy" packaging, clutching a pair of false lashes while your sixteen-year-old gives you that look, then you already know why OnCue Glow exists.

You know the look. It’s the one that says, "Mom, you’re ruining my life and my aesthetic simultaneously." Meanwhile, your "Mom-brain" is screaming, Those look like two fuzzy caterpillars are about to take flight from your eyelids. You are fifteen. Please, for the love of all things holy, put them back.

I’m Tamara, the founder of OnCue Glow, and that exact moment, the tug-of-war between teen self-expression and maternal "let’s-keep-it-classy" vibes, is the heartbeat of this brand.

I didn't start this company because the world needed more makeup. The world is drowning in makeup. I started OnCue Glow because the world needed a bridge. A middle ground. A safe space where "feeling pretty" doesn’t have to mean "growing up too fast."

The "Too-Much" Industry

Let’s be real for a second. The beauty industry isn’t exactly known for its subtlety. When my daughter started getting interested in lashes and makeup, I went looking for products that felt appropriate for her age. I wanted something that enhanced her natural sparkle rather than masking it.

I found two things.

One: "Play" makeup that felt like it belonged in a plastic vanity set for a five-year-old. It was cheap, it was scratchy, and it didn’t respect the fact that she was becoming a young woman.

Two: High-glam, heavy-duty "influencer" lashes. These were beautiful, sure, but they were designed for red carpets and studio lighting. They were heavy. They were overwhelming. They felt... well, "too much." On a 14-to-16-year-old, they didn't look like an accent; they looked like a costume.

I realized there was a massive gap for girls in that magic window of mid-teens. They aren't kids anymore, but they aren't thirty-year-olds going to a gala, either. They’re somewhere in the beautiful, messy, exciting middle. And they deserved products that met them exactly where they were.

Bridging the Gap

OnCue Glow was born from a simple mission: to create a brand that moms could trust and teens would actually want to wear.

I wanted to take the "no" out of the conversation. Instead of "No, you can't wear those, they're too much," I wanted us to be able to say, "Yes, let's try these: they're perfect for you."

And I wasn’t building it alone — my daughter was right there in it with me. She helped me shape what “age-appropriate” actually looks like in real life. She gave honest feedback (the kind only a teen can give). She helped pick styles that felt cute — but still school-safe. She tested early samples, timed how long she could comfortably wear them, and told me immediately if a band felt pokey, heavy, or annoying.

And she gave me the most important feedback of all — a hard no to the heavy, thick strip lashes we tested first. Too much. Too obvious. Too uncomfortable. That “no” turned into our breakthrough: ultra-lightweight strip lashes with a thin, nearly invisible band — the kind that blends in, feels effortless, and gives that natural glow instead of a costume moment.

If it didn’t pass her “I’d actually wear these” test, it didn’t make the cut.

Beauty should empower: not overwhelm. It should be a tool for confidence, something that builds from the inside out. When a girl puts on a pair of our lashes, I don’t want her to feel like she’s hiding. I want her to feel like her own eyes are just a little brighter, her gaze a little more intentional.

Safe. Age-appropriate. High-quality. These weren't just buzzwords for me; they were the requirements. I spent months obsessing over weights, bands, and fibers — and she kept me honest through every round. If it wasn't feather-light, it wasn't OnCue Glow. If it wasn't easy enough for a beginner to apply without a meltdown, it wasn't OnCue Glow.

Mom + teen. Mirror time. Feather-light lashes. Mom-approved.

The Magic of the Middle Ground

There is something so special about the ages of 14, 15, and 16. It’s a time of discovery. It’s when you’re figuring out who you are, how you want to present yourself to the world, and how to carry yourself with grace.

But the industry often tries to rush this stage. It pushes "perfection" and "transformation." At OnCue Glow, we’re doing the opposite. We’re pushing for "enhancement" and "authenticity."

We believe in:

  • Mentorship over Marketing: We aren't here to just sell you a product; we're here to guide you through the process.
  • Authenticity over Filters: Our lashes are designed to look like they could be yours: just on your very best day.
  • Ownership over Insecurity: We want girls to own their look, knowing they look polished and put-together without the "try-hard" energy.

It’s about pacing. You have your whole life to wear heavy makeup. These years? These are for the glow.

The Solution: Our Four Foundations

When I sat down to design the initial collection, I thought about the different versions of "glow" a teen might need. I didn't want a hundred confusing options. I wanted a curated, simple, and polished menu.

  1. Natural: This is for the girl who wants a "did she or didn't she?" look. It’s subtle, airy, and perfect for school or a casual hang.
  2. Glam: A little more "oomph" for those special moments: think school dances or birthday dinners. It’s polished without being heavy.
  3. Statement: For the moments when she wants to feel bold and expressive, but still maintains that weightless, breathable feel.
  4. Feather-Light: Our signature approach. Every lash we make has to feel like nothing. No heavy bands. No poking. Just comfort.

These aren't just products; they're the result of a mom saying, "There has to be a better way." You can see the full vision coming to life at our products page as we gear up for launch.

Lash tray. Soft color. Easy choices — clusters and thin-band strips.

More Than Just Lashes

OnCue Glow is a community. It’s a place where moms and daughters can find common ground. I’ve seen it happen: that moment when the tension over a makeup choice turns into a bonding moment. When you’re leaning into the bathroom mirror together, teaching her how to line up the band, laughing because the first attempt went a little wonky.

Those are the moments I’m building this for.

I want to change the narrative around teen beauty. It doesn’t have to be a source of conflict. It can be a safe space for exploration. It can be a lesson in self-care and intentionality.

When you support OnCue Glow, you aren’t just buying lashes. You’re supporting a small, woman-owned business that puts your daughter’s confidence: and your peace of mind: at the top of the priority list.

A Promise from Me to You

As we get closer to our official launch, I want to leave you with a promise. I will never put a product in our shop that I wouldn't feel confident and happy to see my own daughter wearing.

We aren't chasing trends that fade in two weeks. We’re building a brand based on timeless grace, simple beauty, and the belief that every girl deserves to glow at her own speed.

Lightweight. Reusable. Confidence-boosting.

That is the OnCue Glow way.
